My name is Leonard Masimba Dimikira and I am aged 31. I live in Zimbabwe, manicaland province. I did my education in the rural areas of mutasa in Mt Jenya. When I completed my ordinary level in 2004, I managed to pass four subjects and I did rewrite some of the subjects I failed in June 2005.
After that because of the political instability in the rural areas I migrated to the city, however I could not continue with my education because of financial challenges, my parents were peasant farmers and could not afford to take me to college. In 2006 I started taking care of myself because my uncle could not afford anymore. Then is the time when I started taking drugs. Between 2006 and 2008 I could survive on selling bread and mending shoes at a corner for me to be able to pay rentals and food. I spend 6 years in drug and substance abuse up until 2011 when I decided to quit. During the 5 year period, to be precise in 2009, I started engaging others who were involved in the same situation.
In 2008 I was employed as a cashier at BP Service station until 2011. In 2012 I got employed as a cook/Chef at Premier Services Medical Investments (PSMI), the position I still held at the moment. I then enrolled with University of Zimbabwe and did a certificate in Public Relations and business promotion. I also did executive certificate in Senior Management Development Program which is pending.
I am currently working with the youths living in the streets who are into drug and substance abuse with the vision of getting them off the streets so that they get some decent education and live their purposeful and fruitful lives.
